FAQ

Where do I find you?

We are based on the second floor, above The Hair Group on The High Street in Old Town -  you will find all of the details on the 'contact' page.

How do I book in for my massage?

You can book by either 'treatment' or 'therapist'  -  Once you've selected what you'd like all the availability for that massage will be shown. Please note that for obvious reasons,  weekends and evenings tend to get booked up in advance quickly. If you are able to make weekdays please do choose one of those options, we really appreciate it! You need to also fill in some questions regarding your health.

Should I subscribe when I book?

We say yes! All of our subscribers will get added to the mailing list. We send out a weekly email called #zendenlove with any offers coming to you first so you will alway get number one access to deals. dates and offers before we send them out on social media.

Can I book for someone else?

It depends why you're booking! Of course you can if you have all of their details and permission, if you want the massage to be a surprise then a gift voucher is better for sure.

I have never had a massage before, what treatment do you recommend?

Generally we say to go for a Swedish one first, perhaps choose a simple back massage to begin with then try longer or different types after that once you feel comfortable. Our signature massage is the 90 minutes Swedish from Samtosha and 60 Deep Tissue from Jerome - somehow he manages to make a Deep Tissue relaxing!

I know how beneficial massage is to my wellbeing but, I am feeling nervous, what can I expect when I arrive?

You'll always be greeted with smile at Zen den. The 2 of us work in the space doing various treatments so you'll be greeted by whoever is free! Sophie is here too, self employed and has her own business called 'Alignment' but, she is always happy to meet and greet you on our behalf too! Please do just come on in and enjoy the space, we will be with you as soon as possible to take you into your treatment room..they are all different but equally as stunning. Once in Zen Den, simply sit down, enjoy the peace and calm of the space We will chat to you about what you'd like from your massage and discuss any adjustments needed - for example, if you've got tickly feet then we can skip them, keep your socks on too if you like...please don't be too nervous...after 10 years of massaging, (for Sam) we have seen and heard of almost every 'quirk' imaginable...it's all welcomed here.

We welcome...

Hairy legs, spotty backs, hairy backs. moles big and bobbly, self harm scars, overweight, underweight, dry skin, sweaty feet, feel like crying, peeling nail varnish, greasy hair we just don't care...we welcome it all, it's all part of you and your story. We have experience of working with all ages and in some respects non of us are nurotypical! We do understand when adjustments are needed, for example...wear your earpods and listen to your own music/story if it makes you feel better. The thing most important to us is that you feel safe, looked after and at peace throughout your massage.

What shall I wear for my massage?

Clothes to the salon please! For your massage you will wear your knickers or pants - we try our best not to get oil on them but, particularly with boxer shorts it can be tricky so don't wear anything fancy!

Are there any medical conditions that mean I am unable to come for a treatment

Very very few! On the whole we know that massage and reiki are absolutely safe for most medical conditions. However if you suffer with any of the following please get in touch before booking -

Fever and contagious diseases

Blood Clots

Kidney Disease

Liver Conditions

Cancer

Uncontrolled Hypertension

Inflammation

Is Zen Den accessible for wheelchairs?

Sadly not, we are on the second floor with no lifts.

What weight can your massage bed hold?

35 stone - we have treated clients of all sizes. Please do book in, we want to share relaxation with as many you as we can. Let us know if you have weight related health issues so we can consider those as part of your treatment.

I am pregnant, when can I come for my pregnancy massage?

You are able to come for your first pregnancy massage after your 12 week scan. There is no evidence at all to suggest that a massage would impact negatively prior to 12 weeks however, our insurance policy states that we have to wait for this date boooooo! You will also need an initial 'yes' from your midwife too. After that you may come as often as you like right up until you have the baby! It is also mandatory for all Zen Den babies to come and see us once they are on the outside of your belly too! Love a squish :-)

When can I come for your post natal massage Closing The Bones?

You can come in for this treatment as soon as you like - traditionally this was carried out on the day of the birth or very soon after. However, this treatment can also be given years after the birth as a way to heal physically and emotionally. Please see treatment detail on the booking page for more information.

Do you massage men?

We do, we have a campaign to encourage sharing this news too! #zendenformen so when you see the posts come up please tag your male friends and family members. We simply want to bust the myth that relaxing massages are mostly for women, it's simply not true. Massage to support wellbeing and mental health in men is just as important as for women. Since beginning the campaign we have seen our male client base at least double with 5-10 men a week now coming for downtime each week, so we know the news is getting out and that makes us very very happy.

What age can my child/teen come for a massage?

We massage from 4 years upwards. There are 3 different age brackets to book online, scroll to the heading 'kids and teens' 4-10 years for 20 minutes, 11-14years  for 30 minutes and 14-17yrs for 40 minutes. Do contact us with further questions or requirements for your children, we know how important their well being is to you, we adapt to their needs whether it be that they are struggling with anxiety, sadness, loss anger, whether it be with physical illness/injury or perhaps you feel that some time spent peacefully will be of benefit. You are required to stay in Zen Den with younger children so they feel safe and relaxed when in our care.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

We do! You can order a monetary value online, when you the recipient will receive the electronic gift voucher and code directly to the email address you input on the date you choose. Please note the emails do not alway arrive first thing in the morning due to the timings on the site, and ask your recipient to check their junk mail too.

If you would prefer a physical voucher we ask that you pay online first by ordering an electronic one... we will then provide the physical one to gift! Follow these simple steps!

  1. Order your voucher online for the amount you’d like

  2. Have the voucher emailed to YOU not the recipient then you will have the electronic code

  3. Send us the electronic code (and the amount) in a text/mail and we can add it to your physical voucher

  4. Arrange a date to pop in and collect from us

  5. Top tip - keep that email with order number as the order number is super long! You can then send it onto your recipient at a later date after they have the their physical voucher from you - they need that tiling number at time of booking and it’s so much easier to be able copy and paste it
